There’s a lot of misinformation floating around the internet in regards to hair extensions, so we thought it was high time to set the record straight! Now there’s a couple of ways to break down this question because there’s no easy answer. The short answer is no. The long answer has to do with brand, maintenance, type of extensions, etc. So buckle up, we’re about to get technical!

Brand

The first factor to take into account when asking if hair extensions damage your hair is brand. Not all extension brands are created equal. And it doesn’t just have to do with the quality of the hair itself (although that is very important). It has to do with the technology used. Tony Odisho’s extensions use tested technology to safely secure the wefts to your natural hair.

Plus our specially formulated removal solutions help ensure that damage during the removal process is slim to nonexistent. Not every brand takes the care we do to ensure the safety of your natural hair!

Type of Extensions

Tony Odisho carries three different types of extensions: Fusion, Tape, and Velo. Our Velo Extensions are made with a double wefted wire suspended clip-in system, so they are virtually damage-free and can be taken in and out by the wearer as desired.

Tape extensions are applied in smaller wefts. Their seamless application technology is safe on hair when applied and maintained correctly. Plus, they last 6-8 weeks and can be reapplied up to two times after the initial application.

Fusion extensions are applied strand by strand and stick a lot longer than tape. They last up to 4 months. Removing them is a more involved process than with tape, but our removal solution is specially made for it, so any TO certified professional hairstylist can remove them with minimal damage.

Application/Removal

Proper application and removal cannot be emphasized enough when it comes to avoiding damage from hair extensions. That’s why Tony Odisho offers such carefully designed, hands-on certification classes. Our classes will leave stylists fully equipped to create a perfect extension application every single time.

Maintenance

Of all the factors that come into play in regards to minimizing damage to hair after wearing extensions, maintenance is the most important. First, we highly recommend only using product from the Ostia Collection hair care line because all of the products in it are specially formulated to be safe on extensions.

We also recommend using our mixed bristle paddle brush at least twice a day to limit tangles and distribute healthy natural oils to your extensions. Additionally, when heat-styling hair, you should always use a heat protectant like our 3-in-1 Mist and avoid placing heat directly onto tape tabs or fusion bonds. For any other questions you have regarding maintenance, be sure to ask your stylist!

So we finally have an answer to the question: do hair extensions damage your hair? It doesn’t have to be as scary or daunting as some folks make it out to be. If you follow these tips, you’re sure to love your hair while you have extensions and after you remove them!

Sure, dry hair sounds like more of a winter than summer problem, but hear us out! Your hair can get severely dried out from a number of different factors in the summertime. For example: sun exposure, chlorine, and even saltwater. Here’s how you can combat these and keep your hair hydrated this summer without sacrificing any fun!

Heat Style Less Often

We know how hard it can be to put down the blow dryer and curling iron, but this is important. If you can even just go a few days with your natural hair texture, it will do your hair a lot of good. If you really can’t stand how your hair looks, try some heatless hairstyles like braids or buns. The benefits to lessening heat styling are immeasurable!

Use a Heat Protectant

If you absolutely must heat style your hair, be sure to use an effective heat protectant. We recommend 3-in-1 Mist because it packs so many benefits into one bottle. Not only does it protect against heat, it also protects against UV rays and has detangling properties! It’s a must for your next beach day.

Brush Regularly

Brushing out your hair often helps distribute healthy oils from your scalp so they can moisturize your hair naturally. Be wary if you have naturally curly hair, however. If you have straight or wavy hair, this step is essential. We recommend brushing with a boar bristle paddle brush at least twice a day, especially if you have hair extensions.

Deep Condition Semi-Regularly

Deep conditioning is an easy way to rehydrate your hair quickly. However, you should make sure to check the ingredients and only use products that are free of sulfates and parabens. Sulfates and parabens actually dry out your hair and can even compromise your color! Luckily, the Hydrate Masque (formerly known as Intense Conditioner) is free of those harmful ingredients!

Drink More Water

This may seem like an odd inclusion on a list of hair tips, but it’s actually very important. If your body is hydrated, it’s easier to keep your hair hydrated. It’s really as simple as that. If you’re spending a long day out in the hot sun, be sure to fill your water bottle (or bottles) ahead of time!

Apply Smooth Serum

Smooth Serum is made with a super lightweight formula that moisturizes dried out hair without weighing it down like other hair serums. Apply it to damp hair after a shower or to dry hair as needed. It smells and feels fantastic so you’re practically guaranteed to get hooked and use it year-round!

Whatever your hair care regimen is, be sure to carve out some time and choose products specifically to keep your hair hydrated this summer. Follow these tips and you’ll have healthy, hydrated hair, no matter what the season!

You’re packing for summer vacation. You’ve got your favorite clothes, most reliable makeup, and of course, your hair care products. Did you remember to pack 3-in-1 Mist? It’s an absolute must-have hair care product for your travels this summer! Here’s why.

Heat Protection

First and foremost, 3-in-1 Mist offers heat protection. Even if you’re not heat styling your hair every day, it’s super important to protect it. It’s also important to take into account that sun exposure is heat exposure. So if you’re spending a long day lounging at the beach, protecting against heat is vital! This will also help keep hair from drying out or getting frizzy after prolonged sun exposure.

UV Ray Protection

Speaking of sun exposure, 3-in-1 Mist also protects against UV rays. Why does this matter? Well UV rays can seriously compromise your hair color and even dry it out. If you want your color to stay vibrant and your hair to stay hydrated, prep with 3-in-1 Mist before setting foot outside this summer.

Detangling

If you’re spending your summer swimming a lot or generally just staying active, your hair is going to get tangled. It just so happens that 3-in-1 Mist is a super quick and easy-to-use detangler. So no matter how much time you spend on a windy beach, you can rest assured it won’t take long to detangle your tresses afterwards.

Shine

As if all those properties and benefits weren’t enough, 3-in-1 Mist also offers a natural shine to the hair. It’s perfect for hair that’s dull or dry because it adds much-needed shine and moisture, but not so much that it weighs down the hair. Plus it smells heavenly. So it’s a win-win-win all the way around!

Don’t leave 3-in-1 Mist out of your suitcase when packing for your next vacation. Take advantage of its numerous benefits and enjoy healthy hair all summer long! Buy it here.

If you tend to spend a lot of time outdoors in the summer, then this list is for you! Don’t neglect your hair care regimen just because you’re on vacation. Now it’s more important than ever to protect your hair against harsh chemicals and sun exposure. With these essential summer hair care tips, you’ll be ready to take whatever this season throws you!

Protect Against UV Rays

Prolonged exposure to UV rays can cause severe damage. It dries hair out, makes it frizzy, and can even fade the color. The solution to this problem is protecting your hair with the Ostia Collection 3-in-1 Mist. Not only does this one-of-a-king product protect against UV rays, it also protects against heat styling and has detangling properties. It’s an absolute must for your summer hair care routine.

Try to Go Longer Between Washes

Admittedly, washing hair less frequently is doubly difficult in the summertime, but hear us out! You can still rinse out the sweat and grease with just water. Plus using our talc-free Ostia Collection Dry Shampoo can help extend your style even longer. The reasoning behind washing hair less frequently is that it can actually be very drying, which consequently causes the scalp to over produce oil. It becomes an endless cycle of oiliness where the more you wash it, the oilier it gets!

Use Conditioner While Swimming

If you swim a lot, it’s very important to protect your hair. From the extreme drying properties of chlorine to the possibility of blonde hair turning green, you’re going to want some protection. We recommend wetting the hair and applying a generous amount of conditioner before swimming. Leave the conditioner in–don’t rinse it out before you swim. This will help protect hair from many kinds of potential damage.

Deep Condition Semi-Frequently

Another vital summer hair care tip is making sure to deep condition your hair. We recommend doing it every 1-2 weeks. The best product for this is our Hydrate Masque. It’s comprised of a unique formula that restores and maintains the health, moisture and shine of hair. Apply to wet hair from the mid shaft to ends and leave in 5+ minutes for best results.

These essential summer hair care tips are just that–essential. Don’t destroy your hair this summer, instead nourish your mane and enjoy gorgeous healthy hair, year-round!

If you struggle with giving your flat, lifeless hair the volume of your dreams, you’re in good company! A lot of women deal with this, but it’s easier to fix than you may think. Here are 5 ways to add volume to your hair.

Use Volumizer Shampoo & Conditioner

The Ostia Collection Volumizer Shampoo and Conditioner are an absolute must. They are paraben and sulfate free so they don’t dry out or damage your hair (or make your color fade). Plus, they smell amazing and work well on hair extensions and natural hair alike!

Prep with Volumizing Mousse

Prepping wet hair with Volumizing Mousse is a great way to add volume to your hair. It’s a lightweight foam that enhances your style without getting sticky or stiff. It’s perfect for showcasing your natural hair texture (if you air dry) or giving smooth volume if you blow dry.

Get an Extra Boost With the Root Lifter

If you want some extra volume at your roots, the Root Lifter is the way to go. It gives a major boost of volume while increasing the longevity of your style. Just spray some at your roots while hair is still wet and reap the benefits!

Use Dry Shampoo

A great hack for adding volume to your hair is using Dry Shampoo! Your scalp naturally products sebum and oils to keep your hair moisturized. But these oils can also weigh down the hair as they build up. Dry Shampoo helps you combat this by reducing excess oils to keep hair light and voluminous!

Gently Tease Hair

Using a rat tail comb or teasing brush, gently tease at the roots where you want to add volume to your hair. We strongly emphasize here that you need to do it gently. Teasing too roughly or too often can cause breakage and snarls. So do it sparingly!

Try Extensions

Lastly, a tried and true way to add volume is hair extensions. If you have particularly thin or fine hair, we recommend using Tony Odisho Fusion Extensions. Tony Odisho Tape Extensions are also a good bet if you use our unique, single-sided tape technology so that the extensions don’t weigh down your natural hair.

If your New Year’s resolution is to workout more, welcome to the club. Also you may be wondering the best way to care for your hair extensions if you’re working out regularly. Well no worries on that front. In this post, we’ll break down what to do when working out with hair extensions!

Pre-Workout

Before you work out, secure your hair in your favorite style. Ideally a bun, ponytail or braid. Make sure it’s tight enough to stay in place, but loose enough that it doesn’t cause extra strain on your tape strips or fusion bonds. Lower hairstyles tug the least on your hair extensions.

If your workout involves swimming, wet your hair and apply conditioner to it from the mid-shaft to ends. This will protect it from getting frizzy and dried out from the chlorine.

If your workout is outdoors, apply 3-in-1 Mist to protect your natural hair and hair extensions from harmful UV rays (plus get the benefit of it being a detangler while offering added shine).

Post Workout

After you’re finished working out for the day, wash your hair with your favorite Ostia Collection shampoo and conditioner. The Ostia Collection is specially formulated to be safe on hair extensions.

If your hair is feeling a bit extra dry (if you swam in chlorinated water, for instance), use the Intense Conditioner because it doubles at a deep moisturizing hair masque. Just let it sit in your hair for 3-5 minutes before thoroughly rinsing it out.

It’s truly that easy to take proper care of your hair while working out with hair extensions. So don’t let the hair care daunt you, catch up on your New Year’s resolution today!

When making New Year’s resolutions, don’t forget about your hair! Whether you have extensions or wear your hair natural, hair care is super important. That’s why we recommend that you resolve to take better care of your hair in 2019! Here’s how:

Use paraben and sulfate free hair products

Ingredients like parabens and sulfates dry out and damage your hair. They can even fade your color and weaken extension bonds. Luckily, all of Tony Odisho’s hair products are sulfate, paraben, and alcohol free. So you can rest assured that when you use our products, your hair is safe!

Drink more water

Whether you’re planning on starting a new workout regimen or you just need to cut back on the coffee in favor of something more hydrating, drinking water is essential. It’s extremely important for your hair’s health. The more hydrated you are, the more hydrated your hair is. It’s that simple!

Always use a heat protectant

We probably sound like a broken record on this one, but it deserves to be said again. Always use heat protectant! If you don’t protect your hair from heat with a spray like our 3-in-1 Mist, be prepared for dry, frizzy hair and split ends throughout 2019. No excuses!

Stay on schedule with your hair appointments

For the love of all that is holy, do not wait too long between hair appointments. Whether you’re prone to letting your extension bonds grow out past your ears or your split ends rise up to them, please don’t. Your hair (and your hair stylist) will thank you.

Wash your hair less frequently

Washing your hair every day is definitely something to leave in 2018. It dries it out and ultimately makes your scalp greasy. To extend your style between washes, use our talc-free Dry Shampoo. It may take a little bit for your hair to adjust to a new washing schedule, but it will be well worth it!

Follow these tips to take better care of your hair this year and we promise you won’t be disappointed. Whatever you aim to do in 2019, we wish you the best of luck and endless good hair days to go with. Happy New Year!

Winter can be pretty brutal on your hair. The cold weather dries it out and the wind tangles it. But have no fear! We’ve got you covered with these 5 winter hair care tips. Follow these and you’ll have gorgeous, shiny, hydrated hair no matter how cold it is outside.

Shampoo Less

Even the best sulfate free, paraben free, and alcohol free shampoos can dry out your hair when used too often. Try to shampoo no more than 2-3 times a week. If your hair gets greasy between washes, spray some Dry Shampoo on your roots to extend your style a bit longer.

Drink More Water

Staying hydrated is super important for your hair health. If you’re hydrated, so is your hair. Make sure to drink a lot of water during the winter season (and every season) so your hair can stay healthy and hydrated regardless of the weather.

Deep Condition Weekly

Cold weather brings dry ends. That’s a fact. Which is why it’s important to commit to deep conditioning your hair on a weekly basis. Luckily, our Intense Conditioner doubles as a hair mask. All you have to do is apply it from the mid shaft to ends and leave in for about 5 minutes before for rinsing.

Avoid Heat Styling

We  know how hard it is to avoid heat styling, but hear us out! Even under the best conditions, heat can dry out hair. So just try to extend your heat styles longer by using dry shampoo between washes. And always always always use a heat protectant like the 3-in-1 Mist when you do heat style.

Use a Serum

Of all our winter hair care tips, this one will show you the fastest results. Use Smoothing Serum on your dry frizzy hair, for an ultra lightweight shine. You’ll be amazed at how quickly it transforms your hair from dull to vibrant.

These winter hair care tips are a surefire way to have hydrated, healthy hair all winter long. So go out and enjoy this holiday season, rest assured your hair is taken care of.

If you like to use a lot of products, it’s important to know what order to apply them in so you can maximize results. The same way you know not to put an undershirt over a sweater, you need to know what products go where on your hair! So without further ado, here’s how to layer hair products.

  1. 3-in-1 Mist

The first thing you should ever apply is 3-in-1 Mist. This is because it’s a detangler so you won’t be ripping out hair when you comb it wet. It also offers UV ray AND heat protection all while adding a natural, healthy shine to your hair. It is a must-have product, especially if you have hair extensions.

  1. Volumizer Root Lifter

Who among us doesn’t need a little boost of volume now and then? Apply the Volumizer Root Lifter at the roots while hair is still wet. This application will optimize its ability to bump up your roots, making your hair look fuller and bigger. It also has a dry shampoo formula in it, so your style will last for days!

  1. Volumizing Mousse

To get the most out of your volumizing products, you’ll need to decide if you want all over volume or just volume around your roots. If you want all over volume, apply the root lifter, then the Volumizing Mousse. If you want concentrated root volume, just use the root lifter and skip the mousse.

  1. Dry Shampoo

After you’re done blow drying your hair, apply a little Dry Shampoo at the roots. Why put it on clean hair, you ask? It helps increase your style’s longevity while adding a little more texture to your hair, making it easier to style.

  1. Smoothing Serum

Smoothing Serum is a must if you have frizzy, dry, or damaged hair. Apply it from the mid shaft to ends and let your hair benefit from its many antioxidants and essential fatty acids. This ultra-light serum will give your hair a gorgeous shine without weighing it down!

  1. Hairspray

Lastly, you’ll need your finishing product: hairspray. Flexible Hold Hairspray always comes first. It’s a heat protectant and offers a workable hold so you can continue styling after you apply it. Once you’ve achieved your desired style, set it with Strong Hold Hairspray to keep it in place all day long!

That’s everything you need to know about how to layer hair products. It’s much less daunting when you see it all laid out. So try it for yourself and reap the benefits of these vital hair care tips!

Nine times out of ten, hair extensions are going to be a different texture from your natural hair. Factor in the added thickness and length, and you’ve got a whole new head of hair to figure out how to style. Don’t get overwhelmed, though! If you follow these easy tips and tricks on how to style hair extensions properly, you’ll be just fine.

Use the Right Shampoo/Conditioner

Using the right shampoo and conditioner is critical to styling hair extensions. Luckily the entire Ostia Collection is safe on extensions. All of the products are sulfate and paraben free, so they don’t dry out your natural hair or extensions.

Avoid Air Drying Hair

Regardless of what you may have done prior to having extensions, air drying your hair is no longer an option. Frankly, it shouldn’t have been an option to begin with because very few hair textures look naturally pretty after air drying.

Don’t Blow Dry Lazily

In that same vein, don’t just flip over your hair and rough dry it. You’ll need to dry it section by section with a round brush. This will limit breakage and offer a more well-rounded, less frizzy look.

Always Use 3-in-1 Mist

3-in-1 Mist is an absolute must to style hair extensions properly. It detangles and protects against heat and UV rays. Use it in every style to keep your extensions tangle-free and healthy looking.

Apply Serum

Smoothing Serum will do wonders for your natural hair and extensions. It’s lightweight and adds a gorgeous shine to hair while smoothing out frizz. You don’t necessarily have to use it every day, but we certainly recommend using it around once a week.

Other than these tips, just style your hair like usual. It’s not so daunting once you get started! As our CEO always likes to say: hair extensions don’t require more maintenance than natural hair, just different maintenance.
