Summer is about to start winding down soon, but there’s still time to try this cute summer side braid hairstyle! It’s a great way to get some of hair out of your face in this scorching hot weather, plus it looks adorable and can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion.

This tutorial is being demonstrated on a model wearing our new Weft Extensions, which will be available for purchase this fall. We will also be offering beaded weft certification classes shortly thereafter!

Step 1 – Prep

summer side braid hairstyle tutorial, detangling spray, heat protectant

Prep the hair with your favorite styling products. We recommend 3-in-1 Mist for its detangling properties and heat protection. Flexible Hairspray will add some buildable hold for the base of the style as well.

Step 2 – Curl

summer side braid hairstyle tutorial

Curl the hair into soft waves using the Infrared Curling Iron. For this style, we removed the clamp from the iron and used it like a wand to create a looser wave.

Step 3 – Section

Part the hair on the desired side and use a clip to keep excess hair out of the way before you begin styling.

Step 4 – Braid

Begin braiding small pieces at the top of one side of the head, gathering more hair as you work your way down. Tie off with clear rubber band.

Step 5 – Widen

Pull on sides of the braid to give it a wider, fuller appearance.

Step 6 – Wrap

Take a small piece of hair and wrap it around the clear rubber band and tuck the end in the band itself so that it doesn’t show.

And that’s it! You have a gorgeous summer braid hairstyle that super easy to recreate and can be worn on just about any occasion.

This hairstyle is perfect for special occasions and even bridal hair if you want! It’s ridiculously easy to recreate, but it still looks very intricate and elegant. Without further ado, here is our easy pull through braid tutorial!

Step 1 – Apply a set of Velo Extensions

This step is semi-optional. If you’re already happy with your hair’s length and fullness, you can skip it. But if your natural hair is short and fine like this model’s, Velo Extensions are a must to achieve this look.

Step 2 – Tease the hair

Easy Pull Through Braid Tutorial

With a teasing brush, tease hair  around the crown in order to boost volume for the style.

Step 3 – Brush with a Paddle Brush

Easy Pull Through Braid Tutorial

It’s very important to use our Mixed Bristle Paddle Brush for this step! It’s specially designed to detangle both your natural hair and extensions in order to create a seamless blend. It’s great regardless of whether or not you’re wearing extensions, though!

Step 4 – Create small half ponytail and flip it

Leaving some face-framing pieces in front, make a tiny half ponytail (as pictured) and flip it inward.

Step 5 – Repeat step 4 several times

There’s a lot of misinformation floating around the internet in regards to hair extensions, so we thought it was high time to set the record straight! Now there’s a couple of ways to break down this question because there’s no easy answer. The short answer is no. The long answer has to do with brand, maintenance, type of extensions, etc. So buckle up, we’re about to get technical!

Brand

The first factor to take into account when asking if hair extensions damage your hair is brand. Not all extension brands are created equal. And it doesn’t just have to do with the quality of the hair itself (although that is very important). It has to do with the technology used. Tony Odisho’s extensions use tested technology to safely secure the wefts to your natural hair.

Plus our specially formulated removal solutions help ensure that damage during the removal process is slim to nonexistent. Not every brand takes the care we do to ensure the safety of your natural hair!

Type of Extensions

Tony Odisho carries three different types of extensions: Fusion, Tape, and Velo. Our Velo Extensions are made with a double wefted wire suspended clip-in system, so they are virtually damage-free and can be taken in and out by the wearer as desired.

Tape extensions are applied in smaller wefts. Their seamless application technology is safe on hair when applied and maintained correctly. Plus, they last 6-8 weeks and can be reapplied up to two times after the initial application.

Fusion extensions are applied strand by strand and stick a lot longer than tape. They last up to 4 months. Removing them is a more involved process than with tape, but our removal solution is specially made for it, so any TO certified professional hairstylist can remove them with minimal damage.

Application/Removal

Proper application and removal cannot be emphasized enough when it comes to avoiding damage from hair extensions. That’s why Tony Odisho offers such carefully designed, hands-on certification classes. Our classes will leave stylists fully equipped to create a perfect extension application every single time.

Maintenance

Of all the factors that come into play in regards to minimizing damage to hair after wearing extensions, maintenance is the most important. First, we highly recommend only using product from the Ostia Collection hair care line because all of the products in it are specially formulated to be safe on extensions.

We also recommend using our mixed bristle paddle brush at least twice a day to limit tangles and distribute healthy natural oils to your extensions. Additionally, when heat-styling hair, you should always use a heat protectant like our 3-in-1 Mist and avoid placing heat directly onto tape tabs or fusion bonds. For any other questions you have regarding maintenance, be sure to ask your stylist!

So we finally have an answer to the question: do hair extensions damage your hair? It doesn’t have to be as scary or daunting as some folks make it out to be. If you follow these tips, you’re sure to love your hair while you have extensions and after you remove them!

It can be a struggle to make wire suspended clip-in extensions look natural on thick short hair, but rest assured it is possible! It just takes some easy tips and tricks to make it look more blended. In this tutorial, Tony Odisho himself demonstrates how to apply Velo Extensions to thick short hair.

First, clip up most of the hair using Tony Odisho’s double hinged non-slip alligator clips.

On February 9th, 2019 the Tony Odisho team collaborated with ArtShow Chicago to put on a unique fashion show, entitled Fashion Show 2 F R E E D O M. ArtShow Chicago is a non-profit that puts on art and fashion shows to highlight local artists and designers, as well as draw attention to social issues while giving back to the community. This particular show, Fashion Show 2 F R E E D O M, was created to celebrate the most fundamental human right and demonstrate what it means to the community.

The designers involved with the show primarily went to design schools in Chicago or have/had their own personal lines before. Most of the designers didn’t take a literal interpretation of freedom in their collections, but instead made collections that celebrate the joy of freedom to them personally, consequently creating a diverse and innovative collection of pieces.

Tony Odisho’s involvement in the show came in the form of hair styling with our high end Ostia Collection styling products. Stylists Margot (Hairy Godmother) and Josue (of Exsalonce Salon Chicago) handled hair styling for the majority of the models in the show. Additionally, Tony Odisho’s director of sales and professional makeup artist, Alexa applied makeup for many of the models.

Initially only 150 tickets to the event were available, but they sold out so quickly that ArtShow added more and ended the night with nearly 300 tickets sold! Suffice it to say that this event was a smashing success. Proceeds of the show went toward funding artists in Chicago. This one-of-a-kind celebration of creativity and–more specifically–freedom was a sight to behold and the Tony Odisho team was honored to be a part of it.

If you struggle with giving your flat, lifeless hair the volume of your dreams, you’re in good company! A lot of women deal with this, but it’s easier to fix than you may think. Here are 5 ways to add volume to your hair.

Use Volumizer Shampoo & Conditioner

The Ostia Collection Volumizer Shampoo and Conditioner are an absolute must. They are paraben and sulfate free so they don’t dry out or damage your hair (or make your color fade). Plus, they smell amazing and work well on hair extensions and natural hair alike!

Prep with Volumizing Mousse

Prepping wet hair with Volumizing Mousse is a great way to add volume to your hair. It’s a lightweight foam that enhances your style without getting sticky or stiff. It’s perfect for showcasing your natural hair texture (if you air dry) or giving smooth volume if you blow dry.

Get an Extra Boost With the Root Lifter

If you want some extra volume at your roots, the Root Lifter is the way to go. It gives a major boost of volume while increasing the longevity of your style. Just spray some at your roots while hair is still wet and reap the benefits!

Use Dry Shampoo

A great hack for adding volume to your hair is using Dry Shampoo! Your scalp naturally products sebum and oils to keep your hair moisturized. But these oils can also weigh down the hair as they build up. Dry Shampoo helps you combat this by reducing excess oils to keep hair light and voluminous!

Gently Tease Hair

Using a rat tail comb or teasing brush, gently tease at the roots where you want to add volume to your hair. We strongly emphasize here that you need to do it gently. Teasing too roughly or too often can cause breakage and snarls. So do it sparingly!

Try Extensions

Lastly, a tried and true way to add volume is hair extensions. If you have particularly thin or fine hair, we recommend using Tony Odisho Fusion Extensions. Tony Odisho Tape Extensions are also a good bet if you use our unique, single-sided tape technology so that the extensions don’t weigh down your natural hair.

If your New Year’s resolution is to workout more, welcome to the club. Also you may be wondering the best way to care for your hair extensions if you’re working out regularly. Well no worries on that front. In this post, we’ll break down what to do when working out with hair extensions!

Pre-Workout

Before you work out, secure your hair in your favorite style. Ideally a bun, ponytail or braid. Make sure it’s tight enough to stay in place, but loose enough that it doesn’t cause extra strain on your tape strips or fusion bonds. Lower hairstyles tug the least on your hair extensions.

If your workout involves swimming, wet your hair and apply conditioner to it from the mid-shaft to ends. This will protect it from getting frizzy and dried out from the chlorine.

If your workout is outdoors, apply 3-in-1 Mist to protect your natural hair and hair extensions from harmful UV rays (plus get the benefit of it being a detangler while offering added shine).

Post Workout

After you’re finished working out for the day, wash your hair with your favorite Ostia Collection shampoo and conditioner. The Ostia Collection is specially formulated to be safe on hair extensions.

If your hair is feeling a bit extra dry (if you swam in chlorinated water, for instance), use the Intense Conditioner because it doubles at a deep moisturizing hair masque. Just let it sit in your hair for 3-5 minutes before thoroughly rinsing it out.

It’s truly that easy to take proper care of your hair while working out with hair extensions. So don’t let the hair care daunt you, catch up on your New Year’s resolution today!
